Description of the Group:

The Notification and Response of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Work Group is composed of experiences in the field of pre-hospital stroke care with specific attention to 911 coverage and dispatch, triage, treatment and transport protocols for stroke patients.

Goals of the Group:
  • Increased participation of pre-hospital providers in the Consortium
  • Developing a glossary of key stroke terms for pre-hospital care providers in the NECC region
  • Develop and implement a project that will examine the identification, transportation, and treatment of stroke patients in both the rural and urban pre-hospital settings
  • Share best practices and create opportunities for collaboration in the NECC region

Current Project Overview:

Currently, the Notification and Response of EMS Work Group is focusing on developing a project that will examine the identification, transportation, and treatment of stroke patients in both the rural and urban pre-hospital settings.  This project includes conducting a survey of State EMS Directors and developing a glossary of key terms for the NECC region.

Additional Resources:

Rhode Island Hospital (Providence, RI) recently created a stroke e-presentation for the EMS Community featuring Dr. Edward Feldmann, MD former Director of the Stroke Center.
